EYAG has just launched a new call for applications from young people interested in the field of media, active citizenship and EU affairs to become member of EYAG in our 2011-2012 term.

EAVI YOUTH ADVISORY GROUP (EYAG)

The European Association for Viewers’ Interests (EAVI) is currently looking for motivated young Europeans, aged between 16 and 30 years old, to become new members of its Youth Advisory Group (EYAG).

What is EYAG?

EYAG was set up in 2008 in order to actively involve young people in the work of EAVI. It is composed of young (16-30 years old) members representing their respective countries. There is at least one representative per European country.

What does EYAG do?

EYAG aims to give youth a voice, to share new ideas, information and experience relating to media, active citizenship, education and new technologies. Each member reports to the group on the situation in their country/region in relation to these themes. For detailed information please consult this document.

Why become a member of EYAG?

If you are passionate about issues related to media, democracy and active citizenship at a European level, EYAG might be something for you!

You will have the chance to give feedback, advice and ideas for European-level projects and priorities, as well as having the possibility to get involved in designing and coordinating new projects, if this interests you. You will network with other young people from varying backgrounds, share your ideas and expertise, and learn from others. You will also have the opportunity to participate in events and conferences and represent the views of EYAG.

EYAG members will have the opportunity:

  • to get actively involved in the work of a non-profit organisation and to provide recommendations in relation to EU level projects and initiatives
  • to work with other like minded individuals to make a real difference in relation to media issues in the EU
  • to develop valuable networks
  • EYAG members will have the possibility of attending the EAVI IV International Conference, as well as other international conferences and/or events.

Mandate of EYAG Members:

To achieve EYAG’s objectives, members are expected to fulfill the following mandates:

  1. Liaison Role
  2. Participatory Role
  3. Advisory Role

By communicating with the coordinator(s) of EYAG, members help to identify the views and priorities of young people in their countries, thus providing recommendations, whilst also informing about developments at regional and national level in relation to the interests of EYAG and EAVI.

For more detailed information on the role of EYAG and the members’ mandates, please see here.

Once selected, members have a mandate for one year (renewable).

The activities of the group include:

  • monthly online meetings
  • suggesting actions, initiatives, projects, ideas for improving European citizenship through media use.
  • outlining and discussing the situation of youth and the media in their own country with the other members and vice versa.
  • debating on subject matters such as media, education, communication, new technologies and civil society issues.
  • providing suggestions on actions to be taken in relation to youth and the media in Europe

On average the activities for EYAG will take one hour a week and communication is primarily through facebook.
